'Nurturing talent' is vital
Sales managers should nurture talent, claims an industry body.
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) called on managers in all sectors to provide support to employees.
Ruth Spellman, chief executive at CMI, explained that happy, creative staff are the key to commercial success.
She said: "Managers need to focus on creating a talent culture to ensure that employees are nurtured and developed to the advantage of the business.
"The changing demographics of the British workforce means that effective talent management practices are essential.
"Organisations need to attract and then be able to keep the right people for the job and placing an emphasis on the development of their teams will enable managers to go a long way to achieving this."
Last week, a survey by the Work Foundation found that managers expected their management styles to change because of the impact of the recession.
In addition, the report's authors advised managers to work "holistically" to fully engage their staff.
