EU Treaty final draft rumours dismissed by Taoiseach

Executives in Irish sales jobs should note Taoiseach Enda Kenny has dismissed rumours that a final draft on the new EU treaty would be completed by next week, it has been reported.

EU leaders from 26 countries are due to meet next week to discuss the treaty, which proposes a fiscal stability union across the region, however, Mr Kenny maintained drafts were routinely drawn up in preparation without suggesting a conclusion had been reached, RTE News revealed.

On January 30th, Mr Kenny is expected to tell fellow EU leaders whether or not Ireland will hold a referendum regarding the treaty, but he said he could not consult the Attorney General until the final draft was presented.

The only reason the nation could host a referendum on the treaty is if it would make changes to the constitution, according to transport minister Leo Varadkar.

He told RTE radio: “It’s not clear at all that that is going to be the case with this fiscal treaty. I don’t particularly like referendums,” the Irish Times quoted.
