Retail sales take monthly increase, figures show

Executives in Irish sales jobs should be aware that retail figures for November showed an increase on the previous month, it has been reported.

There was a 1.6 per cent climb in sales volumes last month as shoppers invested in clothing, footwear, furniture and consumer electronics, the Irish Times revealed.

While this was more promising than October’s results, the yearly picture was more grim as it showed a 0.7 per cent decline in the annual figure.

Bloxham chief economist Alan McQuaid warned retailers that although the figures were encouraging, they should not expect a large influx of customers ahead of December 25th.

He told the news provider: “We wouldn’t read too much into the data as you would expect shopping to pick up in the run-up to the Christmas period.”

According to Retail Excellence Ireland, retailers accused finance minister Michael Noonan of scaremongering consumers when he suggested Ireland could exit the eurozone.
